What version of Flash do I have?

Flash Player is discontinued and blocked by modern browsers. This page explains detection limits and safe verification steps for legacy systems.

Flash is discontinued and not supported in modern browsers
Adobe Flash Player reached End of Life on December 31, 2020 and has been removed from all major browsers. Version detection via the web is no longer possible.
If you need to verify legacy environments:
  • On Windows with old Internet Explorer, Flash was an ActiveX control. Check Control Panel → Programs for "Adobe Flash Player".
  • On legacy browsers that still expose plugins, look for a plugin named "Shockwave Flash" in the add-ons/extensions page.
  • On managed enterprise systems, consult IT policy. Modern OS/browser versions block Flash entirely for security.

Windows (legacy)

  1. Open Control Panel → Programs and Features
  2. Search for "Adobe Flash Player"; if present, note version
  3. Flash is insecure; uninstall is recommended

macOS (legacy)

  1. Open System Preferences → Flash Player (if available)
  2. Check the Updates tab for version info
  3. Remove Flash since it is no longer supported

Security note

  • Do not install third-party Flash downloads. They are unsafe and often malware.
  • Use modern, HTML5-based alternatives for video, animation, and interactive content.

About Flash Player status

Adobe Flash Player reached End of Life on December 31, 2020. Browser vendors removed support and actively block Flash content for security.

Websites cannot reliably detect a Flash version in modern browsers. Any detection is limited to legacy environments where plugins are still exposed.

How to verify on legacy systems

If you must check a legacy machine:

Windows:Control Panel
Open Control Panel → Programs and Features → search for Adobe Flash Player and note the version.
macOS:System Preferences
Open System Preferences → Flash Player (if present) → Updates tab shows the version.
Recommendations

Do not install Flash. Use modern, HTML5-based solutions for video and interactive media.

  • Security firstLegacy Flash exposes severe security risks. Modern OS and browsers block it by default.
  • Enterprise environmentsIf a legacy app still requires Flash, consult IT for a contained, offline environment.
